Why Won’t My Computer Start in Safe Mode?

“Safe Mode” has been around since Windows 95. In Safe Mode, Windows runs with minimal sets of drivers and services and bypasses most non-core components which makes it easier to troubleshoot or fixcomputer issues.

There are scenarios in which Safe Mode can be a very helpful tool to fix and diagnose drivers, software, registry issues, restoring systems settings or stopping auto running programs.  It even helps in removing stubborn malware, spyware, adware and viruses for businesses that are having trouble with network security.

Now we can see the importance of Safe Mode, however, to get your computer to start in Safe Mode is not always easy or the same and there are different ways to get into Safe Mode.

Before starting your computer in Safe Mode, make sure to remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer. When trying to start your computer in Safe Mode, check to see if your computer has one operating system (OS) or multiple operating systems. If there is only one OS then do the following: press and hold F8 as your computer reboots. Make sure you press F8 before the windows logon screen appears otherwise you will have to reboot the computer again. If there are multiple operating systems on your computer, you have to use the arrow keys to highlight the OS that you want to start in Safe Mode, and then press F8

If you have an Apple (a Mac) computer, reboot your Mac then immediately hold the Shift Key as soon as possible after the startup tone. Release the Shift key when you see a progress bar during the startup process. This indicates that your Mac computer is performing a directory check and it is part of the Safe Mode process.

If you find that starting your computer in Safe Mode does not solve your problems, you may need to contact an IT consultant in San Diego to provide reliable and professional assistance. After explaining your problem, they’ll be able to provide you with a solution, as well as a plan for how to prevent any risk of data or information loss in the future.
